Belonging is a commitment we don’t take lightly.
This week, we mark the International Day of the Girl by standing with Black girls across Oakland and beyond—honoring their leadership, creativity, and wisdom.
Girls worldwide are facing rising challenges—educational inequities, gender-based violence, and shrinking public investment in youth development. In our city, Black girls are reshaping community, art, and activism every day. They are not an afterthought. They are the architects of our collective future.
SousSHE programs like Paint Me Empowered, Culinary Cuties, and Sis, Let’s Do Brunch are designed with care. We create spaces where cultural identity is valued, creativity is encouraged, and leadership is embodied.
These are initiatives and ecosystems—rooted in legacy and grown through relationships.
We continue to build with educators, artists, and healers who reflect the brilliance of our girls. Our work is grounded in what we know to be true: when Black girls are supported, communities shift.
This week, let’s deepen our attention. Let’s celebrate our girls not with performance, but with practice.
