What We Carry, What We Heal

Community, Mental Wealth & the Summer Ahead

May took us deeper.

Intimate circles on boundaries and the body to standing firm at the Hayward and Oakland Mental Wealth Block Parties. We’re outside moving with clarity and care, and holding space because the need is real, urgent, and ongoing.

As we transition from Mental Health Awareness Month into the fullness of summer, we carry what we’ve seen, felt, and learned. We’ve witnessed how many of us are holding too much in silence. How many Black women are praised for surviving—but rarely supported in sustaining wellness, how community can be both a salve and a strategy.

We talk truths. We sit in it. Together.

Sis, Let’s Talk: Boundaries and That’s someBODY, gave space to talk about the quiet burnout of always being available, the sacred act of saying “no,” and the grief that lives in our bodies. Intimate and confidential sessions that sometimes act as mirrors, and maps, and medicine.

At the Mental Wealth Block Party, we shared information about our upcoming programs and how women can plug into a community that doesn’t just speak of healing, but practices it. That includes the return of Paint Me Empowered, a weekly summer series for girls reclaiming joy and identity through art, sisterhood, and cultural expression—every Saturday in July.

Why This Work Matters

According to the Black and African American Communities and Mental Health report from Mental Health America, only one in three Black adults who need mental health care receive it. The reasons are layered: cultural stigma, lack of access, economic barriers, and the sheer exhaustion of systems not built for our wellness.

This is where SousSHE steps in—not as a substitute for clinical care, but as a culturally rooted companion on the wellness journey. We’re anchoring in cultural truth and generational care.

What’s Coming Up
We’re continuing the momentum this summer with new circles and activations:

  • June 26: “Rewriting Your Rules” (Inspired by Morgan DeBaun’s new book)

  • July 10: “Cleaning Out the Closet” (Healing Circle + Clothing Swap)

  • Every Saturday in July: Paint Me Empowered (Youth girls programming)

  • BOSS’ Black August Block Party (Black Joy, Resistance and Liberation)

How You Can Support

We need you—your participation, your donations, your amplification. SousSHE is a community-led organization fueled by integrity, reputation, and love. Your contribution helps us keep our programs accessible, affirming, and expansive.

✨ Donate or become a recurring supporter: www.sousshe.org
📅 Join an upcoming circle or bring one to your city
📥 Reach out: create@sousshe.org

These spaces are open, intentional, and grounded in the belief that healing doesn’t need to be performative to be powerful. Sometimes it’s a room with snacks, journals, and women who just get it. Sometimes it’s art supplies and girls being loud, creative, and loved on. See you soon.
