The 2024 theme for Women’s History Month, designated by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” This theme honors women who strive to remove bias and discrimination from both individual lives and institutions, spotlighting their efforts to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive society. The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.
Women’s History Month offers a profound opportunity to explore and honor the pivotal role Black women have played throughout history and continue to play today. The contributions of Black women in fields such as science, politics, literature, and the arts have often been overlooked, despite their groundbreaking achievements and innovations.
Balancing the recognition of historical contributions with the celebration of contemporary successes presents challenges, notably in ensuring inclusivity and equitable representation. Highlighting these achievements necessitates a conscious effort to address systemic barriers that have historically marginalized Black women’s voices.
International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
This International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024, SousSHE invites you to join us in championing the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” It’s a clarion call to galvanize action, amplify voices, and propel forward the agenda of investing in women—not just as a matter of economic policy but as the cornerstone of human rights.
